What's React TV?

React TV is a streaming platform that gives users the tools to produce production-quality TV channels from YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, and more.

What's the history behind it? Were there any motivations behind its creation?

React TV was started as a personal project to let content creators find and watch trending content with their audience. Since then, it has grown through many iterations and is now a fully-featured streaming platform.

The goal is to provide a system that lets content creators use their existing content to engage with their audience in a new way. React TV is not affiliated with any other company and is not a part of any larger organization.

How were you able to get the domain name? My assumption is that it wasn't so cheap!

The right place at the right time. I wasn't actively tracking domain names, but when I was in the conceptual stages I had a few ideas for what I wanted to call the website. Since the first iteration of the platform was built around the concept of watching "react" videos, it was natural that I went to look for complimentary domains.

It turned out that React.tv was being sold in the low thousands and I jumped on it immediately. I am not sure the history of it, but if I had to guess it was because a previous company was shutting down and ended up selling the domain right around the time that I was searching.

How are you different from PseudoTV, DizqueTV, ErsatzTV, Tunarr, and Bunny Ears TV?

Tools like these are excellent for turning your own local media library into custom TV channels. Typically run on your own hardware, often with ripped or self-hosted files.

React TV takes a different approach: it's a hosted platform built around streaming from online sources. You don't manage servers or transcode your own files. Instead you get a real-time scheduling calendar, blocks that carry playback history across days, a public EPG to discover channels, embeddable players, watch parties, chat, and collaboration tools — all in the browser and shareable with your community & friends.

How are you different from Pluto TV, Tubi, Xumo Play, and The Roku Channel?

These are mainstream FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) platforms. They offer large catalogs of licensed, professionally curated content with their own ads and programming decisions.

React TV isn't trying to be another typical FAST network, and is more akin to Twitch.tv in offering content creators the tools to produce their own FAST TV channels. It's a platform where anyone can produce and schedule their own content, discover what other people are broadcasting, and build a viewing lineup that reflects individual taste. It is more like community-driven cable than a single corporate program guide.
